POV

Today we all have an opinion. We all have a viewpoint. I even see a lot lately when I go on social media, and I’ll use TikTok as my example. You always see these videos now that show a Point Of View (POV). Well, I am not here to go about giving my point of view on everything but what I am going to do is share just something that has come to my mind in regards to things going on in someone’s life.
I will start with this analogy that I heard from pastor Steven Furtick with Elevation Church. And how in this illustration he used Legos. A quick story when I was a kid I used to never use Legos for what they were “supposed” to be. I never followed the directions that came with all the pieces, I just built whatever came to my head. But back to the illustration, that when you open a box of Legos the pieces are all separated. The look on the front of the box and what is inside the box look different. You have to build it.
You see, this illustration that was used is a POV of sometimes how we view our own life. We see the picture on the box and think that was how we are supposed to be already. We see the finished product and want that so bad, we forget we have to be built - put together. Our way of thinking is that we want the million-dollar house, but we do not even want to work a few extra shifts at work. We want a career in sports, but you do not want to put in the hours of practice outside the game. This analogy can be used for so many more things, and maybe that is where you find yourself today. Thinking about how you just want that finished product to be there already, but you do not want to figure it out with yourself on how to get there.
Let me tell you something. God has the directions. God is the instructions. God already made you! Your answer on how to get to the “picture on the box” is to follow what God has already planned for your life. It says in Proverbs 19:21 ~ Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Like the illustration, we have so many things we want to do with those pieces. But when we let God take control, we prevail.
Now let me use another POV to maybe not just help yourself but maybe help someone else. Have you ever heard of the illustration of the “Duck on the Pond”? The imagery of a duck calmly scooting across a calm pond, but under the surface, the duck is paddling like crazy to stay afloat. I’m sure many of you - even myself - have thoughts of this and that you can’t imagine a duck churning its legs so much just to stay afloat. Well like ourselves, this happens with our life. We as people tend to look calm, put together on the surface. But underneath, things going on in our own lives that we all deal with and have battled against.
In my life, I definitely battled that analogy myself. But more importantly, understanding this has let me know that everyone is just like me. Everyone around me is battling their own things that I am unaware of. When we change our point of view, it allows us to shift our focus not just on ourselves but on someone else. We as a society, need to be there for one another more than ever. We all have struggles, we all have things we are going through. So if this little analogy helps you understand that, I hope it reminds you every day.
What in your life do you see things only one way?
What are some things in your life you need to change your POV about?
Are you allowing God to work in your life so He can build you towards His purpose?
I end this with one of my favorite little reminders. I am someone who likes to write things down to remember them. I am also someone who holds onto things to bring back memories of a particular time. Well if you know me, or have ever been in my truck I have some motivational wrist bands on my dash. But what I also have on my dash is a rubber duck. That rubber duck like I pointed out in the above illustration. Is my daily reminder to check my point of view. I hope and pray that today you see what your point of view is for your own life, as well as things you see every day.
